Introduction
Central Bank of Kenya Retirees, through CBK Veterans WhatsApp Group, mooted the idea of CBK Veterans Benevolent Fund in June 2020. This was later to be transformed to a Self-Help Group Welfare Association, with benevolent fund as one of its structures. The idea was floated through a post in the WhatsApp Group, and was embraced by 90% of the participants, based on a survey conducted immediately thereafter. The would-be (prospective) members, through proposals in the WhatsApp Group, nominated a team of six individuals, to form an interim committee to spearhead the formation process of the Group.
The Interim Committee’s mandate, among other things, was to come up with modalities of forming a legal entity, coming-up with a draft Constitution, Rules & Regulations, and to put the necessary structures in place. The Group’s cardinal aim was, and still is, to bring together the former employees of Central Bank of Kenya, and their immediate families/dependents/beneficiaries, with a view to supporting one another, materially and socially, especially in cases of bereavement, sickness and other psycho-socio matters, in an organized and structured manner.
